Jilamara Arts and Crafts Association

Jilamara needed a website that does justice to Tiwi art and an ecommerce store that runs itself, with SAM as the source of truth.

Jilamara Arts and Crafts Association is a remote Indigenous art centre based in Milikapiti on Melville Island in the Tiwi Islands. The centre represents Tiwi artists working across painting, printmaking, ironwood carving, stringybark and textiles, with a distinct visual language rooted in ceremony, country and ancestral story.

The brief was a contemporary website that honours that work, paired with an ecommerce store powered by Defyn’s SAM plugin so the catalogue, artists and provenance flow from SAM straight into the shop without manual data entry.

We designed a clean, gallery-grade site that lets the work breathe: generous typography, considered space around every artwork, dedicated pages for Tiwi art and culture, and a shop that organises pieces by medium (painting, print, ironwood, stringybark, textiles) the way Jilamara actually catalogue them.

The ecommerce store is wired into SAM via Defyn’s own SAM plugin (samplugin.com). Every artwork, artist record, photograph, story and price flows from SAM into the store automatically, so the art centre team manages the collection in one place and the website always reflects what is actually available.

The whole site is engineered for performance and credibility: lean code, image optimisation, accessible markup, schema for products and artists, and structured data so Jilamara’s work is found and represented properly in search.
