The short version

Stores that keep selling after launch

Plenty of agencies can set up a Shopify theme. The difference is what happens with 5,000 products, a shipping rule that breaks, or a checkout that leaks. We build stores for scale and we are still here when the questions come.

Defyn is Shopify Certified, so the store is built to Shopify’s own standards rather than around them.

Good fit if

  • Your current store is slow, hard to browse or losing sales at the checkout, and you can see it in the numbers
  • You are on WooCommerce, Magento, Neto or Wix and have outgrown it
  • You are launching a product or a brand and want the store built properly the first time
  • You need Shopify talking to your shipping, accounting, POS or stock system without manual re-entry

Not a fit if you want a free theme installed with your logo on it. Shopify makes that easy to do yourself, and we would rather say so than charge you for it.

How a Shopify project runs

Five steps, in this order

What you sell, how many products, what platform you are on and what the store has to connect to. You get a written scope and a fixed price before anything starts.

Collection, product and checkout pages designed around how your customers actually shop, shown to you at phone size first because that is where most of your orders come from.

A custom theme, not a marketplace template with the colours changed. Filtering, search, shipping rules, payments and integrations set up and tested with your real catalogue.

Products, customers, orders and every old URL mapped and redirected so you keep your Google rankings. We run the old and new stores side by side until you say go.

Theme updates, app changes, new features and a local number to call. Most of our Shopify clients stay with us after launch, and that is a choice, not a lock-in.

What we do on Shopify

A custom theme, product and collection architecture, checkout, shipping and payments, set up with your real catalogue and tested with real orders before launch. We design the product page around the questions your customers ask before they buy, because that is the page that decides whether the store makes money.

Shopify Payments, PayPal, Afterpay and Zip configured, tax and shipping zones set for how you actually trade, and the theme built so your team can add products and pages without calling us.

From WooCommerce, Magento, Neto or Wix. Products, variants, customers, order history and every old URL brought across and redirected so your rankings survive the move. We run the old and new stores side by side until you say go, and we time the switch for a quiet trading day.

Heartland Records came across from WooCommerce with more than 5,000 products, the filtering rebuilt so customers could still find things quickly, and Australia Post and Shop Pay wired in.

Themes built for your brand and your catalogue rather than a marketplace template with the colours changed. Filtering and search that work with thousands of products, collection pages that merchandise properly, and the sections your marketing team needs for campaigns and landing pages.

Built to Shopify’s current theme standards so it stays fast, passes their speed checks and keeps working when Shopify ships an update.

Australia Post, Sendle and courier integrations for live shipping rates and labels. Shop Pay, PayPal, Afterpay and Zip. Point of sale for the physical shop. Xero and MYOB for accounting. Klaviyo and Mailchimp for email. Stock and order sync to your warehouse or supplier so nothing is retyped and nothing oversells.

We install apps only where they earn their keep. Every app slows the store a little and costs a subscription forever, so we build small things ourselves when that is cheaper for you.

Faster pages, cleaner product pages and a checkout that does not leak. We measure with your own Shopify analytics before and after, not a generic score: where people drop off, which products get looked at and not bought, and what the mobile experience is actually like on a real phone.

Often the fix is unglamorous: image sizes, a slow app, a confusing shipping message at checkout, or a product page that hides the one detail people needed.

Theme updates, app changes, new features, campaign landing pages and a local number to call, handled by the people who built the store. Small changes are turned around in days, not weeks.

Most of our Shopify clients stay with us after launch, and that is a choice, not a lock-in. The store, the domain and the theme are in your own Shopify account, and you can leave with everything at any time.

Why Defyn

Why Sydney merchants build with us

We have been building and supporting online stores for Sydney businesses since 2016. Four things set the work apart.

Built for big catalogues

We have moved stores with thousands of products onto Shopify and rebuilt the filtering so customers can still find things in two clicks.

Integrations done properly

Shipping, payments, accounting and stock connected and tested with real orders, not left as a list of apps for you to wire up later.

Shopify Certified, no platform bias

Certified on Shopify and experienced on WooCommerce, so we build to each platform’s standards and will tell you which one fits, because we have no reason to push either.

Questions

Before you ask for the review

The things Sydney merchants ask us before a Shopify project starts. If yours is not here, put it in the form and we will answer it in the review.

Shopify or WooCommerce, which should I use?

If the store is the business, Shopify. Checkout, payments, shipping, fraud and hosting are handled for you, it does not slow down as the catalogue grows, and your staff can run it without calling a developer.

If the store is one part of a content-heavy WordPress site, or you need something Shopify’s data model cannot do, WooCommerce can be the better fit. We build on both and have moved stores in each direction, so we have no reason to push you either way. The free store review will tell you which one, and why.

Can you move my store to Shopify without losing Google rankings?

Yes, and it is most of the work in a migration. Every product, collection and blog URL on the old store gets mapped to its new address with a redirect, the page titles and descriptions come across, and we check Search Console for a few weeks after launch to catch anything that slipped.

We have moved stores from WooCommerce, Magento, Neto and Wix. Heartland Records came across from WooCommerce with more than 5,000 products, with the filtering rebuilt and AusPost and Shop Pay wired in.

How much does a website cost?

It depends on what the site has to do. A brochure site for a trade or professional practice, an online store with hundreds of products and a custom web application with logins and integrations are three very different jobs, and we price them differently.

What we will not do is quote before we have looked. The free website review tells you what your current site is getting wrong, what a rebuild would need to include and roughly what it would cost, and you can take that to anyone. If you want a ballpark before that conversation, call us on 02 9834 4119 and we will give you one over the phone.

How long does a website take to build?

A brochure site for a small business usually takes six to eight weeks from kickoff to launch. An online store or a site with custom features is more like ten to sixteen weeks. The single biggest variable is content: when the words and photos are ready early, the build runs on time.

You will always know where the project is. We work in stages, you sign off each one before the next starts, and the site is built on a private staging address you can click around on long before launch day.

Who owns the website when it is done?

You do. The domain is registered in your name, the site lives in a WordPress or Shopify account you own, and you get the login to everything on launch day. There is no proprietary builder holding your content hostage.

Most clients stay with us for hosting and support because it is easier, but that is a choice, not a lock. If you ever want to move, we hand over the files and help with the move.
